Smooth, glossy blonde finished at the AVM Hair studio

New on the menu · Dukinfield

Months of good
hair days.

A keratin blow dry takes the frizz out, halves how long your hair takes to dry, and lasts a season rather than until the next wash. Newly added to the menu at Amy's private studio.

What it actually does

Smoother, not straightened

A keratin treatment coats the hair and is sealed in with heat. It does not chemically straighten anything — your own texture is still there, it is just calmer. Frizz stops reappearing the moment the weather turns, and a blow dry that used to take forty minutes takes a fraction of that.

It suits thick, coarse, curly or wavy hair, and anyone who reaches for straighteners every single morning out of habit rather than choice.

Allow a few hours

It is not a quick appointment. Amy will tell you exactly how long yours needs when she sees your hair.

Lasts months, not days

A keratin treatment grows out gradually rather than washing out. Most people come back a few months later.

Aftercare is simple

Sulphate-free shampoo, and leave it alone for the first couple of days. Amy will talk you through it.

Worth it if…

  • Frizz that reappears the moment it rains
  • Thick or coarse hair that takes an age to dry
  • Curly or wavy hair you want smoother, not poker straight
  • Anyone who straightens every morning and would rather not

The questions everyone asks

Before you book

Will it make my hair dead straight?
No. A keratin treatment smooths the hair and takes the frizz out of it — it does not permanently straighten it like a chemical relaxer. Your natural texture is still there, it is just calmer and far easier to blow dry. If you want it straight you can still straighten it; the difference is that it takes a fraction of the time.
How long does it last?
Months rather than weeks, and it fades gradually rather than dropping off a cliff — so you get a long stretch of good hair days and then a slow return to your own texture. How long depends on your hair and how you wash it, which is why sulphate-free shampoo matters.
How long is the appointment?
Longer than a cut and blow dry — it is a treatment applied section by section and then sealed in with heat. Message Amy with a photo of your hair and she will tell you what to set aside before you book.
Can I have it if my hair is coloured?
Usually yes, and plenty of people have colour and keratin done together or close together. The order matters though, so tell Amy what colour you have or want when you enquire and she will plan it properly.
What does it cost?
It is quoted per person, because the amount of product and the time needed depends entirely on how long and how thick your hair is. Send Amy a message with a photo and she will give you a price before you commit to anything.
What do I do afterwards?
Leave it be for the first couple of days — no washing, no tying it up, no tucking it behind your ears more than you have to. After that, switch to a sulphate-free shampoo, which is what makes the difference between a treatment that lasts and one that does not. Amy will go through all of it with you.

Send me a photo of your hair

It is the quickest way to get a straight answer on time and cost — both depend on how long and how thick your hair is, so there is no honest price to put on a page. Message Amy and she will tell you before you commit to anything.
